Molchanovs Online Instructor Courses

Are you a certified freedive instructor already? The following instructor crossover and upgrade courses are available:

  • W2I Online Crossover Course
  • W3I Online Upgrade Course
  • W3IT Online Instructor Trainer Course (ITC Online)

See below for details.

W2I Online Crossover Course

To participate in a W2I Instructor Crossover Course, you need to meet the following pre-requisites:

  • Be an active instructor in any freedive agency
  • Be comfortable with no fins freediving, both in the pool and open water
  • Be comfortable with monofin technique (no need to use a monofin, it is all about the technique)

After successfully passing the crossover course, to be activated as a Molchanovs Freedive Instructor, you will have to additionally provide:

  • Proof of professional liability insurance
  • Proof of current first aid certificate (no older than two years)

Online Crossover Course Outline

The online crossover course takes the following:

  • 4 half-day online sessions (16h total)
  • provide all in-water teaching assessments on video
  • provide all in-water performance requirements on video

Once you have fulfilled all of the above requirements you will be certified Molchanov Wave 2 Instructor (W2I).

Online Sessions

We run these as Zoom sessions on four consecutive days. The time of the day will be set according to the time zones of all participants. During the sessions we cover the following content:

  • All theory, based on the IC course slide sets
  • Discuss all teaching skills
  • Discuss all disciplines
  • Dry teaching assessments
  • Pass the W2I Entry Exam
  • Pass the W2I Final Exam

Online Assessment Requirements:

  • You need to have internet access, fast and stable enough for a video chat.
  • You need a quiet space (to facilitate the conversation with your IT) and enough room to step back from the camera so that your whole body is in the picture.
  • Your video device must be positioned in a way that you can get up / sit down and practically demonstrate exercises with your hands free. Smart phones are thus only suitable if properly mounted on a tripod.

Video Assessments

In this online version of the Wave 2 Instructor Crossover, you do not have to demonstrate open water teaching assessments and performance requirements immediately.

To become a Wave 2 Instructor, you will need to:

  • demonstrate all open water teaching and performance requirements to a Molchanovs IT anytime within one year of the course start.
  • or provide adequate video footage showing you demonstrating these requirements

Video Footage must be in reasonable quality and resolution and must be unedited, especially without any cuts! It is up to you to provide video footage which allows the IT to assess in detail your proficiency in the demonstrated skill, e.g.

  • Footage of yourself demonstrating DNF should show you a) exactly horizontal from the side and also b) horizontally from behind, so the IT can make a fair assessment of your technique.
  • Footage from a deep dive should show you throughout every phase of the dive, including your turn at the bottom, and a view of your dive computer back at the surface to show the achieved depth and dive time. To get a whole dive into the picture depends greatly on the visibility of the water and might be challenging for the camera person. Please do not forget that the camera person also needs a safety diver.

By passing the teaching requirements and providing video footage of your pool performance requirements you will be awarded a Lap 2 Instructor Level.
