For all of you in trouble with proper equalisation in freediving: This piece by Kurt Chambers sums up nicely the current knowledge about Frenzel training. And it also gets the essence of a paper I (Oli Christen) wrote almost three years ago: If you want to get from "no EQ" to "no problem EQ", then work for it, every day – there is no excuse!

That sounds like a good resolution for 2015 in general, innit?

See you soon in the water!

Equalization (by Kurt Chambers)

It's Not FairThough I have not been diving my whole life, I never had any obstacle to clearing my ears when I got into it in my 20s and I continue to have no impediment.  I never had any idea of ju

This is a full-length video of William Trubridge's attempt to beat his own CNF world record. It was not meant to happen for William today, but he's ok, and that's what most important. But this video is also something else: It is hands down one of the best performances of a freedive safety team I've ever seen recorded on video. Calm, fast, precise and successful. Congratulations to you all!

I just updated the Galleries-page on our website.

Our gallery-page used to feature a few nicely worked out sets hosted on Flickr. Flickr has recently changed its policies – apparently it's now impossible to access your own photos hosted on Flickr and display them on your own website. If anyone has a solution for that, please let me know!

Thanks for your support
Oli

This article reports of singular cases of DCS after breath-hold diving. But it also states that "Extension of the surface interval between the two breath-hold dives appears to prevent neurological symptoms", without going into detail. I read it as a confirmation that the AIDA surface interval rules (timex2; >30m depth/5; >60m one dive in 24h) might be there for a good reason.
Is there information, even anecdotal, where this might not be the case?
Input is very appreciated!

For all Spearos out there!

For tropical spear fishing here in Bali I can't find any reason why NOT to follow the basic safety rules taught in every freedive course, no matter which agency you train with. Ted summs them up nicely.

Please read this piece by Ted Harty and let me know your thoughts!

Safe Freediving Practices = More Fish in the Cooler – DeeperBlue.com
www.deeperblue.com
I’ve been encouraging spearos to dive safer since 2009. Over the years, I’ve heard a lot of arguments against safe freediving practices. Let’s list a few. You can’t hunt in buddy teams. The buddy would scare the fish. This is my area and all these fish belong to me. I know my limits and don’t …
