A short guide to freedive heaven

Why Freedive Flow?

We would like to offer six good reasons to facilitate your decision to come freediving with us:

1. A state of the art setup

Freedive Flow boasts a brand new state of the art center with a 20 meter pool with two marked swimming lanes, a shaded stretching area and a dedicated freediving boat. Cornelius (that’s the name of the boat) can comfortably take up to 15 divers with gear plus crew, emergency-oxygen and spare water.

The freedive pool is purposely built with DYN in mind. No steps, 1,55m at the shallow end and 2,05m in the deep end, a slope joining the two. From the shop and pool to the boat, a 80m walk is as far as you need to go.

All course levels from beginner to instructor of AIDA and PADI freediving are available on the spot. We share our premises with Oceans 5 IDC resort which is why many non-freedive specific courses are also available such as Emergency First Responder (EFR), EFR Instructor (EFRI) and Emergency Oxygen Provider.

2. A beautiful tropical island: Gili Air

Come to Gili Air

Our small tropical paradise island is easy to reach in less than 3h from both Lombok and Bali international airports. The island offers plenty of quiet and relaxation as there is no motorized vehicles. You can leisurely stroll around the island in 90 minutes. The main forms of transport are walking and cycling, and one can also use horse carts to get around.

Gili Air is protected by it’s large neighbouring island Lombok, which reduces the intensity of the wet and stormy season considerably, making the weather exceptionally calm for the tropics. Irregular afternoon showers are welcomed after a day of sunshine and the conditions for freediving are fabulous all year around. There are no extended stormy periods that would make freediving impossible, and for the occasional windy day we have sheltered bays with still -40m depth available.

3. Amazing Freedive Sites

The usual freedive training sites are nearby; a 20min boat ride being the norm. The visibility ranges between 15-25 metres in the wet season to over 30 metres in the dry season. Any depth up to -80m metres can be arranged and there are always buddies available for diving. For fun-diving there are many interesting spots with a fabulous range of tropical marine life and even two wrecks.

4. Emergency and Evacuation Facilities nearby

Both Lombok and Bali have several international hospitals. Emergency helicopter evacuation is possible from Gili Trawangan. Decompression chambers are available both on Bali and Lombok. There is no shortage of medical assistance with every base covered.

5. Food in all Forms

It is easy to eat anything you want as there are restaurants and bars to serve any kind of diet and there is plenty of accommodation on the island to suit any budget. Apart from diving the island also has three yoga schools, many bars to spend time in, a new gym and a selection of other sports and activities to choose from. There are a number of ATMs on the island and it is also very easy to go between the three Gili islands with regular island hopping boats.

6. Last but not least: The team

Freedive Flow is owned and directed by Oli Christen. Oli is a Molchanovs, AIDA, and PADI Instructor Trainer.  He is the author of the original AIDA teaching materials, contributing author for Molchanovs Wave system, and he is also a member of the PADI Freediver Advisory Board.
